You are Warmly Invited to Attend
Mindfulness in Recovery
Michael Shiffman, Ph.D.
March 10 - 31, 2010
7:30 - 9:30 PM
|
| Recovery is more than being sober, what we stop doing, or whether we go to meetings. It’s about how we feel as we live our lives. It’s about how we react to our thoughts and feelings. It’s about our actions and reactions to people, places and things. It’s about ordinary activities and extraordinary events.
Most importantly, recovery is about awakening. Awakening to how we change as we walk the path. It’s about awareness of who we are, how we think, and what we think it all means. It’s about healing old wounds and becoming open to new experiences.
We will integrate mindfulness practices with somatic awareness to embody our exploration of thoughts and feelings, and the observation of our habit patterns and how they affect us. This will deepen our recovery, free-up our energy to be more alive, and develop a more articulate vocabulary of our experience.
Open to those who have worked the steps, have more than two years of sobriety, and are committed to their personal transformation.

| General Info
|
This is an ongoing group where we work directly with the issues of our everyday lives using mindfulness practices. They may be core issues such as fear, anger, grief, obsessive thinking, and emotional reactivity. They could appear as procrastination, boredom, stress, or any other habit pattern. Our work is easily integrated into and will radically enhance any program of recovery.
Mindfulness in Recovery integrates mindfulness meditation, body-oriented therapeutic practices, and group processes, to help us become more grounded, connected, and available.
Open to those who have worked the steps and have more than two years of sobriety.

| Donations / Dana
|
Dana is the Pali word for generosity. In the Buddhist tradition, teachers do not receive a fee for their instructions because the teachings are considered priceless and are thus given freely. Instead, they rely on the appreciation, kindness, and generosity of their students. For this workshop, the leader is compensated from the course fee. Additional contributions are appreciated and fully tax deductible. Checks should be made payable to the "Insight Center."
